The Glenrothes distillery

Introduction

The distillery was built in 1878 by James Stuart & Co. it's a Speyside single malt Scotch whisky distillery located in the town of Rothes in the heart of the Speyside region of Scotland. Also is one of the rare Scotch whisky distilleries to have a cooperage on site.

The Glenrothes is mainly matured in Sherry-seasoned European and American oak casks, built to specification in Jerez, Spain. Ex-Bourbon cask are also used but to a much lesser extent.

Glenrothes 1997-2017 refill sherry butt

Liquid Treasures

Glenrothes 1997-2017  19 years - Faces of Angkor - Special Edition

Cask type: Refill sherry butt (Single cask)

alc./vol:  59.4% (Cask strength)

Tasting notes :

Nose: starts on wet chalk, with hints of cake and a little porridge.

Quite a heavyweight dram, a bit of a meaty spirit. Then some pear liqueur and orange blossom. Aniseed. A little butter.

Mouth: fresher, fruitier as well, almost a fruit spirit. Lots of orchard fruits, apples and pears. Touches of white grapefruits as well. Rather creamy, with plenty of natural barley notes.

Finish: medium long with a grassy touch now.
